We offer 2 Airbnbs and an 1850’s Cottage for accommodations.  For any size celebration, intimate or grand, come tour or book your stay with us at Springbrook!

A Brief History

We first visited Springbrook late 2016 with our kids.  We had no intentions of purchasing the estate, much less making it our home!  The beauty of this place was evident, and our kids recognized it as a good fit for the kinds of things we love to do.  We purchased Springbrook in January, 2017; and in August of that year we moved from our farm and made Springbrook our home.  Our adventure began!

Bill set to work giving much needed attention to the property, while dreaming up so much more.  He drew up plans to coax new life out of the 1920’s Barn that once housed prize Holsteins and hay…but had been empty for years.  Bill and his crew worked tirelessly to bring about what he and Joan envisioned.  Joan was captivated not only by the natural beauty of Springbrook, but by the history as well.  She explored the beginnings and stories of previous owners; and recorded this for guests to discover too.  Joan’s eye for design and décor have unfolded in the Springbrook Whitehouse, Cottage, and Barn to create the perfect mix of rustic charm and vintage elegance; unique and inviting for guests.

We always look forward to meeting the people God brings our way, being part of the happiest times of their lives, and making their experience extra special!  With personalized attention and great care in details, we welcome you to our home; and are committed to each of you taking away fond memories of your own new beginning at Springbrook.  Join us!

Property History

If you enjoy history, you’ve come to the right place!  When you visit, grab a seat next to Joan on a gator for a full tour with history, or sit with Bill and Joan around the crackling fire in the Springbrook Whitehouse for the best tales!  Here’s a snapshot of our past for now….

Earliest records tell us that Native Americans considered this property sacred because of the artesian springs (Springbrook!) and rolling hills that can still be seen today.  First deeded to Timothy Williams and brothers in 1842, the land was later purchased by H.B. Sherman around 1880.  Sherman had plans to build a resort; but instead built a substantial home—the Mansion—Bill and Joan’s private living quarters today. In 1916, Frederick W. Rogers and his wife, Lucy, made the estate luxurious, even adding a $50,000.00 bull to farm, along with a horse arena and personal trainer for their daughter, Anne’s, most decorated horse, “Queen of Springbrook”.  The Rogers made their fortune by the Malleable Iron Range Co., later Monarch Range.

The mansion stood, uninhabited, for years after Anne’s husband’s death.  After Anne passed away in 1987, the mansion was on the verge of collapse and the grounds overgrown.   Dennis Giese purchased the estate in 1988, and coaxed the property’s former beauty and elegance out of hiding and moved a Chapel for weddings and an 1850’s cottage to the estate.  They transformed the mansion and farm manager’s house into a B&B and began welcoming guests. In January, 2017, Bill and Joan Schmidt became owners of Springbrook, and set to work to once again tame the property; but even more, to bring about their vision of a wedding and event venue in the 1920’s barn that had once housed prize Holsteins.  Bill, Joan, and the Springbrook Events staff are now ready to welcome guests for beautiful celebrations and events.
